Jasper councillor Jenna McGrath has decided not to seek re-election in this upcoming municipal election.
In an email statement, McGrath said she wants to re-focus on nurturing her family, friends, businesses and herself.
When not busy homeschooling her children, she will be diving deeply into her massage therapy practice.
Its been a pleasure, an honour and a privilege to serve for you the past four years, McGrath said.
You put your trust in me and gave me the opportunity to come as far as I have today, and for that I am truly grateful.
McGrath was first elected to municipal council in 2017.
In a previous interview, she described how she ran for council in order to offer more representation for families and lower-income residents.
Looking back, McGrath said she is proud of the way she was able to grow, learn and lead.
I have demonstrated commitment to the elected official position and my ability to represent the heart of our community, to make decisions with love, compassion and empathy, she said.
I am pleased that I was able to work with honesty, selflessness, integrity and passion guiding me and can say that this experience has been profound and rewarding in many ways.
McGrath offered gratitude to the rest of council and past ones, Jaspers CAO and administration, those who put their names on the ballot this election and the women she hopes she has inspired.
Im looking forward to continuing to work hard for our town and continue to foster unity, inclusion and love, she added.
Remember to treat each other with kindness and love, to build each other up and to take care of one another.
McGrath did not rule out running in a future election and assured that Jasper was in good hands.
