As the bank balance keeps rising, the dream of a new skatepark in Jasper comes closer to a reality.
Plans are drawn up and permissions have been given, all Jasper Skatepark Committee has to do is come up with the cash.
And as Darrell Savage, chairman of the committee, said: Its not if we build a skatepark, its when.
Jasper Skatepark Committee needs to raise $700,000 and has about $16,000 in the bank thanks to fundraisers and donations.
Members have been applying for government grants and have talked to the municipal council in hopes of some financial support - and will talk again at the councils November 12 meeting.
One grant, the Alberta Community Facility Enhancement Program, could pay for a big chunk of project. Savage said Banffs new $1.5-million skatepark was paid for with the same scheme.
And once the money is raised, the new skatepark will replace the current one in town, between the high school and the activity centre.
A detailed concept design has been created by New Line Skateparks, a Canadian company that has made skateparks in thousands of cities all over the world, following workshops that were held between the committee, New Line and the community to create a design that would work for everybody.
Poker Run chips in
It was Jasper Motorcycle Tours annual Poker Run on September 28 and money raised this year went to the Skatepark Committee.
The fundraiser saw contestants ride around town in motorcycles and stop at different locations to pick up playing cards, with the person with the best poker hand winning the game.
And in the evening the Legion hosted a dinner, silent auction and live band - Whisky for the Pain.
The silent auction had lots including hotel rooms, dinners, beauty products
We had huge donations from local businesses, amazing local business support, said Candace Broughton, owner of Jasper Motorcycle Tours.
We would really love to see more of the community there - its not just for people who ride motorcycles, its a whole town community event you can participate in.
Jasper Motorcycle Tours has been donating locally from the event for at least four years and gives 100 per cent of the profits to the organizations.
And this year, Jasper Skatepark Committee was selected following an online vote. They received $4,151.
Jasper Motorcycle Tours would like to thank the following businesses:

They will drop off the directories and are hoping to collect some extra donations along the way.
