A flipping good time was had by all at the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper hosted by the church of St Mary and St George.

Jasperites filled the Anglican churchs parish hall last week as Grandpa Dong Han whipped up a feast of pancakes for the community.

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent, which starts on Ash Wednesday. The Pancake Day tradition comes from the old English custom of using up all the fattening ingredients in the house before Lent, so people were ready to fast during Lent.

David Prowse, retired minister of the Anglican church, said: I come back to help and support a long-time tradition.

One special thing this year - we have got four different kinds of syrup.

There are a lot of locals, and pancakes - thats the order of the day.

For a donation, Jasperites were invited to eat bottomless pancakes at the church.

Mother-daughter duo Karen and Ann Ogilvy were at the event.

Mom Ann said: Ive lived in Jasper since 1971 and have been coming here the last couple of years. I like the community.

It was daughter Karens first time at the event. She said: Its fun. They are great pancakes and I like the different syrups - Im going to try the spruce one next.
