Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD) is waiving all transportation user fees for the 2020-21 school year.
Those who have paid their transportation fees for this school year can expect a refund by the end of April.
The district’s board of trustees approved this decision at the public board meeting on March 24 in recognition of the financial hardship that many families experienced over the last 12 months.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cost of running transportation was also lower than previous years and last spring’s projections.
The board also approved a motion not to raise fees for the 2021/2022 school year.
The board annually approves transportation user fees to offer services not funded by the provincial government, including the following:
- School of Choice for families who choose to attend a different school from their designated school.
- Alternate Second Seat for families who request a second seat be held reserved on a different bus.
- Ineligible for families who live less than 2.4 kilometres from their designated school.
- Transportation out of Division for families who reside within the GYPSD boundary but request transportation to attend school in another school division.
Jasper Elementary and Jasper Junior/Senior High School both fall within the school district.
