The Jasper Artists Guild (JAG) is looking for public submissions for “The Buzz,” an open entry multimedia exhibit that celebrates Jasper’s visual artists.

Now in its fifth year, the “open-themed group exhibition” looks to “stimulate membership growth for JAG and help the organization to realize its mission of promoting awareness of the visual fine arts in Jasper,” a press release stated.

JAG encourages any artists looking to be involved in the exhibition to get started on producing their projects immediately as art pieces must be submitted from Jan. 5 to Jan. 7 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

JAG’s curatorial committee will arrange the collection of pieces from Jan. 9 to Jan. 11, and a soft opening will be held from Jan. 12 to Jan. 14, with the exhibition continuing until Feb. 12.

Media accepted for submission in the exhibit is “two or three-dimensional wall art, photography to a maximum size of 48-inches on the long side, and sculpture or other three-dimensional art forms,” JAG explained.

“Framing and mounting techniques are at the discretion of each artist; however all submitted works must be ready for immediate hanging or installation by the curatorial team (and) artwork that is not fitted with reliable hanging apparatus or mounts will not be exhibited,” added JAG in their call for submissions.

Artists are able to submit up to three original works and all artwork must be for sale.

JAG will receive 30 per cent of the proceeds from any purchase.

“I am excited to see what the talented Jasper artists will create for this exhibition,” said Russ Mann, a wildlife wood sculptor and JAG member

“Past BUZZ exhibitions have shown us that there is a wonderful sense of creativity and skill in (Jasperites) presenting their artistic vision and it will be a gratifying experience to see these works hanging in the Jasper Art Gallery.”

Any submitted pieces must be accompanied by a completed submission form that can be found at and submission forms can also be picked up at JAG.

JAG can be reached at [email protected] or by calling 780-852-1994.
