Get your dancing shoes ready for another folking good time at Jasper’s biggest music festival.
The line-up for September’s Jasper Folk Music Festival was revealed at a special event at the Legion last Thursday.
And it is another great mix of folk, country, blues and alternative music.
Cristin Murphy, executive director of the Jasper Heritage Folk and Blues Society (JHFBS), the group organising the festival, said: “With the line up we were hoping to achieve a good mix of great music for all.
“We worked hard choosing bands from our online forum, Sonic Bids as well as through mail in submissions.
“The entire board was involved in choosing most of the music and we are excited with what we were able to create as an excellent line up, sure to have everyone dancing."
On the Friday night, the “Springsteen of Northern BC” Mark Perry Duo will hit the stage, followed by Daysormay, an alternative band from Vernon, BC currently touring the States.
Saturday brings EllaHarp, a young San Francisco woman who performs folk-pop riffs on her specially made harp she designed herself, and Georgia-based country duo Few Miles South.
Up next will be The Give ‘Em Hell Boys, who combine country soul with rock 'n' roll swagger and punk rock for a night of foot-stomping fun.
Edmonton singer-songwriter Jessica Heine performs on the Sunday, followed by Ol' Savannah, a Montreal-based folk band known for its vocal harmonies and use of traditional Appalachian and Cajun instruments.
Murphy said: “Our actual headliners have yet to be announced as we are waiting to finalise contracts but are hopeful we can announce them soon and they won’t disappoint.”
Returning this year are Warrior Women, the Jasper mother-daughter Matricia and Mackenzie Brown who perform songs in both English and their native tongue, Cree, and colourful children’s entertainer Kiki the Eco Elf.
Last Thursday’s Battle Royale invited local bands to compete to win a spot on stage at this year’s festival.
And it was an easy win for three-piece HUGHMANZEE featuring Burl Malone as the only group to sign up.
Frontman Malone said: “We kind of formed the band ad hoc so I'm not sure what it will look like later. Our music is spooky pop/folk.
“We use lots of reverb and sing about ghosts and robots almost exclusively.”
Jasper Folk Festival takes place from September 6 to 8 at Commemoration Park. Tickets are available at .
