Small steps can lead to great… books!
The Jasper Municipal Library started its pick-up program on July 8 to the delight of residents who have been in anticipation of the return of at least some of the services there.
Angie Thom, director of library services, said she has been approached by people many times on the street, asking when things will get going.
Now, you can make arrangements to enjoy reading a selection of books by phoning between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Friday.
"People can call the library and request items from on our shelves for pick-up," Thom said.
"If we have it, we schedule the pick-up. At the time we set up the pick-up, we'll explain that you come in the main foyer, do the pick-up at the entrance of the library.
“The books will be sitting on a table at the entrance for you."
The inter-library loan service, through which folks can access books from all over the province and Canada, is not yet available.
"We're hoping later, towards the end of the month, that it'll be up and running," Thom said. "It's a provincial system. There's a lot of moving parts that have to be operational before it's available."
Thom said it is a great way to get books to people in these COVID-19 times, however folks are asked to use protocol when they pick them up.
"Health and safety: We encourage you to observe social distancing, and we encourage the wearing of masks when you're in the building," Thom said.
Sandy Cox, chairperson of the library board, sent out a big thank you to the community for their patience and understanding during these interesting times.
