It is hard to believe it has been 31 years since watching the first Bill and Ted movie.
Keanu Reeves was relatively unknown because he had not done Point Break, The Matrix, or John Wick yet. Many critics consider Reeves to be one dimensional, but I think that is his greatest asset. He excels at the surfer dude roles and no one is better with the exception of Sean Penn.
You do not watch Keanu Reeves for his Oscar potential. You watch him for the zany characters that he delivers each and every time. Alex Winter plays an excellent Bill because he is also a non threatening character in comparison to Ted played by Reeves. Bill and Ted are the dynamic duo and the comedy they bring to the movie is most excellent.
Sci-fi comedies are rare and the ones that have been produced are usually sub par. This is not the case with Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure. The movie is most triumphant and I might even dare to say is most outstanding. Bill and Teds movie paved the way for two sequels which is surprising because the script was incredibly simple. Maybe that is the beauty of the film because it focuses on having a good time while time travelling.
In our confusing world this movie is exactly what we need. To quote Bill and Ted, Be excellent to each other.
