What do the movies, Knives Out, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Looper, and The Brothers Bloom all have in common?
The answer is elementary, my dear Watson. Rian Johnson wrote and directed them all for our entertainment.
Each of his works I would consider a masterpiece of cinematic value. Each film has unique qualities that keep the viewer wanting more.
Johnson’s latest work, Knives Out had me on the edge of my seat the entire two hours and eleven minutes. I am a fan of murder mysteries so Knives Out was on my radar the second I was aware of the title.
The cast of the movie is outstanding and I was pleasantly shocked to see how many A-lister actors would appear on the screen. The film is homage to Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie films. Writing a murder mystery is like playing a game of chess and Rian Johnson is on top of his game. All the elements of the puzzle are there in this movie and the viewer is tricked throughout. Questions are asked and answered which generate new questions.
The cast played to the strength of the questions and the answers were formulated by our snooping private detective. Daniel Craig was brilliant as the investigating detective to the point I forgot about his 007 persona. It has already been announced there will be a Knives Out 2 because Daniel Craig is so fond of his character, Benoit Blanc.
I look forward to the next film and watch Blanc solve his next crime.
