I have been to Pearl Harbor twice and I know the story well enough to say it was a pivotal time in American history and World War II.
What I did not know was the Midway story and how it connects to the Pearl Harbor story. I apologise to all the war historians for my lack of knowledge when it comes to Midway.
Wes Tooke, who wrote Midway did a superior job of telling the story by making it interesting and informative. There are facts laced throughout the movie that made it fascinating to watch. For example, musicians working together to break the Japanese code.
Who better than an individual that is accustomed to working with complex patterns to break an intricate mathematical formula? Without these particular musicians the world might have been a different place.
The aviation component of the movie was spectacular and the level of detail was bar none. Having taken one semester of aircraft maintenance I can say aviation enthusiasts will be captivated by this film.
Roland Emmerich knows how to make a visual movie and I have always enjoyed watching his past projects. Independence Day and 10,000 BC are two of my favorite movies.
The brave heroes in this film remind me of the heroes that I see everyday when I step out of my house.
History has always shown us that individuals are strong and creative when fighting a battle. We continue even today to fight our own unique battle.
