When you wait in anticipation for a movie to be released you hope it will not disappoint you. Â
The hype of a movie can sometimes destroy it by not living up to its own marketing campaign. Choices were made by the Disney corporation not to release the film for fear of losing traction in theatres around the world. COVID-19 changed how Disney would regain the revenue that they lost by bypassing theatres and releasing it exclusively on Disney Plus and other exclusive partners.
The inflated price discouraged me from watching the classic cartoon remake. Fortunately Disney did not bypass its physical media platform and it became available on DVD and Blu-ray. I immediately purchased the film on DVD and had the pleasure of watching a spectacular movie.
Each scene draws the viewer in with its bigger than life sets and the amazing cast. Veteran martial artists like Donnie Yen, Jet Li, and Jason Scott Lee grace the movie with their skill. The real surprise is the dominant female cast and how they make movie magic. The lead Yifei Liu was fantastic and her counterpart, Li Gong takes the villain role to new heights. Their skill at martial arts is evident throughout the film and they captured the essence of a warrior.
I look forward to watching these talented actresses in future martial arts films. There is no doubt Disney still knows how to make movies that entertain the masses.
