If you are looking for throwback TV, you should check out “Newhart.” The show ran from 1982 to 1990 with eight seasons being produced. The show did not change the world, but it did provide for a few laughs in the ‘80s. Bob Newhart was at the helm, and if you know his work, you know he is what is referred to as a deadpan comedian. His timing is flawless, and his stammering style makes for some unique comedy. Mary Frann is Bob Newhart’s co-star, and the two are in sync with each feeding off the other. Watching the two of them work is a lesson in how comedy was done back in the day.

When I watched the show again, I did not realize Henry Mancini did the music score. I have always been a huge fan of Mancini’s work, and it made the rewatch that much better. If you are a fan of “The Pink Panther” series, you have heard his music. The man is a genius when it comes to matching his music to the scene.

I have to say the writers of the show are really the stars of “Newhart.” The dialogue that each writer comes up with is fantastic. By today's standard, there is no comparison, because each scene was heavy on the written word. Sitcoms today do not have a joke that will take five minutes to deliver. If you are going to watch “Newhart,” please take your time and enjoy the ride, because the pace is slow.
