The Hollywood machine is finally catching up, and we are now seeing films that have been produced this year. “Reminiscence” falls into that category and checks all the boxes. It is a sci-fi film with touches of film noir. It tackles global warming so subtly the viewer might even miss it. The movie shifts from the future to the past gracefully throughout each scene. The audience is drawn in deeper and deeper each minute. The entire film centres around the concept of memory and how to access those memories.

Lisa Joy is the individual behind “Reminiscence.” She wrote, directed and produced a film that is unique in every aspect. I have watched thousands of films, and “Reminiscence” is an original. It really should come as no surprise that Joy could create something different. The reason being, Lisa Joy is also one of the brilliant minds behind “Westworld,” which is one of my favorites. Joy understands how to engage the audience because she knows the art of manipulation. We are drawn in without even realizing how far we have been taken. If you love the game of chess and science fiction movies you will understand the mind of Lisa Joy.

“Reminiscence” has a stellar cast with Hugh Jackman being a private investigator of the mind. His co-star is Thandiwe Newton who shines opposite Jackman. The addition of Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson was a genuine surprise. Lisa Joy knew what she was doing when she picked Feguson to the play the part of the femme fatale. Each individual character contributes, but the combination of all three interacting together is what makes this film special. This is a movie to watch if you love sci-fi with a few great plot twists.
