Have you ever watched a show or movie that inspired you? I can honestly say the TV series “Taxi” did exactly that. I watched the show for years, and it was one of my favorite sitcoms. The show motivated me to become a cab driver and even take a trip to New York. After working part-time for two different taxi companies, I realized being a cab driver had been romanticized by the show.

“Taxi” probably has the most eclectic cast of any TV show ever made. It was also a show that launched careers after having a successful run for five years. Judd Hirsch is now a household name because of his starring role. Tony Danza was a professional boxer when he was discovered and cast for the part of Tony Banta. Danny DeVito and Andy Kaufman rounded out the comedy with their insane, over-the-top acting. Christopher Lloyd added the quirkiness that only Lloyd knew how to provide. Marilu Henner provided the yin to the yang of the entire crew. The show worked because of a fantastic ensemble of characters with the backdrop of being a cab driver.

Considering the show was derived from an article from New York Magazine in 1975, it paved the way for future sitcoms. The show is a glimpse into the life of being a hack and a recruitment tool for taxi companies around the world. If you like comedy and fast paced skits, “Taxi” is worth checking out.
