When I heard Queen Latifah was the new face for 鈥淭he Equalizer,鈥� I was intrigued. She is considered the first lady of hip hop, and to be an action star seemed to be a logical step. Latifah has proved she can do it all from singing to acting. The role of 鈥淭he Equalizer鈥� could be considered tailor made for her, because her father and brother were police officers. I have enjoyed her diverse roles over the years. Queen Latifah was never one to get stereotyped. When you think you know what direction Latifah is going for her career, she changes it up.聽
The new 鈥淓qualizer鈥� series is a re-make of a TV series that was made in 1985. The show lasted four seasons and starred British actor Edward Woodward. I was a fan of the show and remember thinking that he seemed too old for the part, but in each episode, he got the job done. He had a demeanor that was worthy of the role, and I looked forward to him playing the Equalizer part in the next episode. Queen Latifah and Edward Woodward both are outliers and it makes their characters able to adapt to whatever script is thrown at them.
鈥淭he Equalizer鈥� concept paved the way for two TV series and two movies starring Denzel Washington. A simple idea of the Equalizer has transitioned over the years and now is a vehicle for change. Who better than Queen Latifah to deliver that message? Fans of Latifah will love the show and want to watch the scales of justice being balanced by the Queen of hip hop.
