Kevin Lazzari | Special to the 51做厙
I have probably watched about 10,000 movies in my life.
I worked at the Chaba theatre when I was younger and was lucky enough to screen a few movies from the projectionist booth. I then worked at the local video store for over twenty years. The reason I mention those two jobs is it would be impossible for me to have not viewed The Godfather. I have to admit that in all that time I have never had the privilege of watching the most famous movie in the history of cinema.
Two hours and 50 minutes later I can now cross The Godfather off my list of movies that I really should have taken the time to view. Imdb.com gives Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzos screenplay a solid 9.2.
I would say careers were made by anyone that was associated with the film. Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, and Diane Keaton are just a few of the heavy hitters that star in this gangster drama. Talia Shire of the Rocky franchise even has a small part.
Paramount released The Godfather in 1972 and I am sure audiences were intrigued by the subject matter. Coppola set the standard for future mafia movies and its representation of organized crime. Don Vito Corleone is the most recognized fictitious name in cinema and only Marlon Brando could have made it possible. I enjoyed watching every minute and I already have The Godfather Part II cued up.
