Kevin Kritiques: The High Note

If you like rhythm and blues, the High Note is a movie that you should check out.

The premise of the movie is an iconic singer and her personal assistant form a relationship that will change both of their lives forever.  There is no violence and the film is a wholesome movie that can be viewed by all ages.

The High Note did not enjoy the success it deserved at the theatres of the world because of its limited run.  It will be one of many movies that will get missed by audiences because of our current situation.  Luckily I was able to view it and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.

I have never really been a fan of musicals, but I do enjoy a film that has a great script and has a brilliant director.  Dakota Johnson is the star and she is starting to prove that her success is not related to the fact that she is the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.

Tracee Ellis Ross is the other star and her name should have given me a hint why she played the superstar singer part so well.  Ross can sing with the best of them and she had her mom to thank for growing up in the music industry.  Tracee is the daughter of Motown recording artist Diana Ross.  Dakota and Tracee both give the viewer a glimpse of what the music industry is about with all the ups and downs of fame.

Maybe, I will have to watch their other films because this one was worth the time invested.

The High Note (2020) is available for digital streaming, and on DVD and Blu-ray from August 11.
