I love a movie that gives away the entire plot in the title.聽聽
For example, in the movie Phone Booth, Colin Farrell is literally trapped inside a phone booth for most of the film. I could list ten movies that you know exactly what you are about to watch and Underwater follows that exact formula.
The movie is set six miles underwater and the viewer is literally submerged in the depths of the ocean for exactly one hour and thirty five minutes. The plot is very thin but the action is intense to the point that the viewer will forgive the minimal story.
Kristen Stewart is great as the lead and I completely forgot she was Bella from the Twilight series. She has done a tremendous job of distancing herself from her past roles and continues to take on new projects that I have enjoyed watching.
If I was the casting agent for Underwater I would have passed on Stewart because of her connection to the vampire movies. It is great when actors shock me and shred their past movie personas. Stewart has impressed me by picking roles that challenge her and the fans have benefited because of her choices.
Kristen Stewart has a whole vibe in the film that reminds me of Sigourney Weaver in her role as Ripley in the alien franchise. If you watch the movie you will quickly see what I am referencing. If you love diving movies this one might be for you.
