John Patrick Shanley's script is a remarkable adaptation from the play "Outside Mullingar". Stanley is the same writer who brought us Moonstruck and Joe Versus The Volcano. His past works speak for themselves, but in Wild Mountain Thyme he truly captures the spirit of Ireland and the characters who are part of the story.

Ireland sets the stage for this romantic comedy with the focus on two individuals named Rosemary Muldoon and Anthony Reilly. They are neighbors with one being oblivious to the love held by the other. Rosemary is played by Emily Blunt and she plays the role to make us believe she is truly Irish. Jamie Dornan who plays Anthony does it so well I actually had to look up if he was from Ireland. The chemistry between the two is what makes the story flow and at a pace the audience will enjoy.

Christopher Walken tells the story and he does it as only Christopher Walken could. I have always enjoyed cameos by Walken because he always brings something special to his character. He has an incredible presence and deliveries his lines as if there were no tomorrow. Even when he is making a fool of himself he still is capturing the moment and adding to the magic of cinema. There is a flow to his awkwardness and if you are a fan of his work you know exactly what I mean.

The beauty of Ireland’s landscape and a story about the girl next door makes this film one that will have romantics captured from the opening credits. With Feb. 14 around the corner, you should check this one out.
