Jasper National Park will start to reopen in June.
It was announced yesterday (May 14) that on June 1, visitors will be allowed to access some trails, day use areas and green spaces at some national park locations.
Specific dates for Jasper are yet to be released, though Parks has confirmed that parts of the park will be reopening in June.
But all camping facilities will remain closed until at least June 21, 2020, while Parks assesses whether and how these services might resume.
All services and facilities such as campgrounds, information centres, entry gates, playgrounds and picnic shelters remain closed.
Group activities and public events are still prohibited until further notice and non-essential travel is not recommended at this time. It is included in Stage 3, the final stage, of Alberta's reopening plan.
Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment responsible for Parks Canada, said: As we all continue to do our part to flatten the curve of COVID-19, access to nature and the outdoors is important for our health and well-being.
"The Government of Canada will begin gradually re-opening national parks, national historic sites and national wildlife areas across the country for limited visitor day use beginning on June 1. They will remain closed through the May long weekend while we prepare.
"Our priority remains the health and safety of Canadians and it will be critical that we all respect the guidance of public health experts, avoid non-essential travel and enjoy these special places responsibly.
"By working together, we can help keep our families, friends, and neighbours healthy and safe.
Highways and roadways which pass through Jasper National Park remain open and Parks Canada continues to deliver critical services including highway maintenance, fire response and avalanche control.
