Machete and knife-wielding men arrested in Jasper after 'altercation'

Two men were arrested July 10 for being in possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

Jasper RCMP received multiple 911 calls at about 7 p.m. Friday reporting two intoxicated males in downtown Jasper.

One man was displaying a machete and another man was displaying a knife to people in a crowded area, said a RCMP press release.

One of the men had allegedly gotten into an altercation with another person and threatened that person with a knife.

The other man had allegedly uttered threats to cause harm.

Jasper RCMP attended the crowded downtown area to investigate the dynamic situation and both men were located and arrested by police.

As a result of the arrests, the following items were seized: a machete, a knife and a concealed knife sheath that is worn on the body under clothing.

Michael Weber (29) of The Pas, Manitoba is charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

Timothy Weber (23) of Edmonton is charged with uttering threats and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

Both Webers were released on undertakings with conditions to appear in Jasper Provincial Court on August 27, 2020.
