The Jasper National Park Management Plan continues to be revised based on feedback received from consultations over the past year.

On Dec. 15, Parks Canada gave an update on the management plan.

We are a little behind where we had hoped to be at this point; however, Parks Canada believes it was worth the extra time and effort, in the midst of a pandemic, to ensure that all Canadians had their say on the direction of Jasper National Park for generations to come.

This management plan outlines how Parks Canada should protect natural and cultural resources, facilitate visitor experiences and learning opportunities, and collaborate with other organizations and Indigenous groups within Jasper National Park.

Legislation requires that management plans be reviewed at least every ten years.

Once the plan is finalized, Parks Canada will send it to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change for approval and tabling in Parliament.

A plan is just the first step in the process, Parks Canada added.

Once the Jasper National Park Management Plan is finalized, we will continue to engage with Indigenous partners, the public and stakeholders to work together to implement the plan and make the collective vision for Jasper National Park a reality.

Feedback on the management plan was provided by 5,000 individuals, 22 Indigenous partner groups and 17 stakeholder groups.
