Masks or face coverings are no longer mandatory in Jasper as Alberta moved into stage three of Alberta's Open for Summer Plan on July 1.
In June, municipal council moved that the face covering bylaws be repealed once stage three was reached, specifically two weeks after 70 per cent of Albertans age 12-plus have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
While masks are no longer legally mandated, the municipality still encourages residents and visitors to keep practicing good hand hygiene, maintaining physical distancing and getting vaccinated when eligible.
People can also continue to wear a mask in indoor or crowded settings if they feel more comfortable doing so.
Some businesses may still require patrons to wear masks.
Nearly all health restrictions are now lifted in Alberta, including limits on capacity and the provincial mask mandate.
As of July 1, 72.8 per cent of eligible Albertans have received their first dose of vaccine, and 42.4 per cent have received both doses.
Alberta Health estimates that 50 per cent of eligible Albertans will be fully immunized by July 6.
Mandatory isolation and quarantine rules remain in place, and masking is still required in hospitals, continuing care, mass transit, ride shares and taxis.
