New COVID-19 case confirmed at Jasper Jr/Sr High School

A case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at Jasper Junior/Senior High School.

It was revealed on Alberta Health's map update yesterday, Oct. 13, that a new case of the virus had been diagnosed in Jasper.

And a letter from principal Mark Crozier sent to parents, guardians and staff of the high school, released on , confirmed that the patient is an individual from the school.

The letter, dated Oct. 13, states that the individual has tested positive for COVID-19 and that the school is working closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all staff and students.

For privacy reasons, the school will not be sharing more information about the individual.

The letter assures parents, guardians and staff that if their child is required to isolate they will receive information from Alberta Health Services about the isolation period.

A deep clean of the school will also be completed.

Across the province, there are currently 464 active school cases with 53 reports of in-school transmission.

Alberta Health definitions for confirmed cases in schools:

Alert (1 case)

  • Parents will be notified by their child’s school as soon as one confirmed case is identified within the school. This is known as an alert. These are not currently included in .Ìý

Outbreak (2+ cases)

  • An outbreak is declared when there are 2 or more confirmed cases in a school setting within a 14 day period where disease could have been acquired or transmitted in the school. Any school meeting this definition will be reported on the map.

Outbreak over

  • A school outbreak is declared over when there have been no new confirmed cases in a school for 28 days.
