The Municipality of Jasper will launch its paid parking pilot project on July 15.

All current two-hour parking will cost $2 per hour between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Off-street parking lots will remain free to use, as will on-street 15-minute drop-off zones and accessible parking stalls.

Resident parking passes will be required for on-street parking in a one-block radius from the pilot project area.

Residents in the designated areas are asked to create a free HotSpot account and register their vehicles there.

So far, the municipality has received over 400 survey responses and several comments and questions by email.

In response to the feedback, some adjustments were made to the program, according to a website update.

The municipality will now accept Jasper National Park resident passes as proof of residency for the residential zones permit applications.

Those who don’t have a smartphone or don’t use the internet can also apply for a residential permit in person at the municipal administration office.

Day permits will be available for purchase at the cost of $16 a day from the administration office.

Due to concerns for seniors without smartphones, residents over 65 or their representatives can register for a parking permit starting July 5.

As well, delivery companies and downtown businesses will be given 15 minutes at a time to actively load or unload goods or passengers.

The residents and businesses surveys will remain open until July 7.
