Jasper RCMP are reminding drivers about the dangers of leaving vehicles unlocked following a spate of thefts last night.
Today (March 4), the Jasper detachment received five separate calls about criminals accessing possible unlocked vehicles within the Jasper townsite.
In one of these incidents the vehicle was stolen.
Sergeant Rick Bidaisee, commander of the Jasper detachment, said in a press release: Leaving a vehicle unlocked or with easy access to valuables stored in the vehicle, creates a situation that criminals find difficult to resist.
Bidaisee said for a crime to occur, there must be a person with the desire and ability to commit the crime, a person or property that is the target of the crime, and the opportunity to commit the crime.
Jasper RCMP is focussing on getting community members to remove the opportunity for culprits to commit these types of crime, he said.
If you have any information about these criminal activities contact the Jasper RCMP at 780-852-4848 or your local police.
If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at or by using the "P3 Tips" app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
