Pursuit officially announced the development of a new 88-room hotel in Jasper on May 4 with an anticipated opening date of June 2022.

Located on the edge of town at 78 Connaught Drive, the hotel will serve as a basecamp for visitors looking to immerse themselves in nature while staying close to the town’s downtown shopping and culinary offerings.

“Jasper is an incredibly beautiful place, visited by guests from around the globe,” said Luke Sunderland, VP, lodging for the Banff Jasper Collection by Pursuit, in a release.

“This new hotel featuring contemporary, wilderness-inspired design will provide guests with a peaceful oasis when visiting such a beloved Canadian national park.”

According to Pursuit, the design will feature “a fresh and modern palette integrating natural wood and stone accents throughout the space.”

The design was led by Canadian design firm DIALOG and supported by Lawson Projects and Johnston Builders Ltd. of Alberta.

Each guest room will have kitchenettes and expanded patios.

The hotel will also feature a vaulted pavilion with a “show-stopping” fireplace designed to enhance “the cozy ambiance of the mountain hotel experience.”

Pursuit secured support from Parks Canada and the community for this project following an extensive public approvals process.

“We are inspired by living and working in some of the most beautiful places on Earth,” said David Barry, president of Pursuit, in the release.

“As we begin to emerge from what has been an incredibly challenging year, we look forward to continuing to invest in the Jasper community while working diligently to preserve such an incredible place.”

With the development of the new hotel, Pursuit will convert 27 rooms at the nearby Marmot Lodge into staff accommodation, which will provide housing for both the new hotel and current operations.

The company currently has eight hotels and multiple experiences in Jasper National Park.
