Just how slow Jasper should go is still going in roundabouts.
After the topic was brought up in March when municipal Councillor Scott Wilson said his son was nearly run over by a vehicle on Bonhomme, currently a 50 kilometre per hour zone, the council voted to bring the town down to 30.
But is 30km/h too slow? Is 40 km/h a compromise? How much of the town should be slowed down?
These questions - and many more - have been lengthily debated at meetings since then.
Councillors have been brought a number of options and cant decide which way to go.
Mayor Richard Ireland even requested this week that each councillor be sent a copy of a town map to colour in themselves and compare.
He said: I think we should go to a default 30 then figure out what areas can be 40 or 50.
30km/h would not adversely affect safety and this came forward as a safety issue.
Some options have been excluded and two have been shortlisted to be considered at their next Committee of the Whole meeting on July 9.
Option One shows a 50 km/h limit on Connaught Drive up to where the central reservation starts, there starts a 40km/h limit which covers most of the town except the areas which are already 30 km/h for school zones and playgrounds.
Option Two, a modified version of an option discussed this week, will show a 50 km/h speed limit on Connaught Drive up to Pine Avenue from the south and Bonhomme St from the north, then a blanket 30 km/h across the rest of the town.
Councillor Jenna McGrath said she was sitting neutral on which areas should be slowed.
I want speed limits to be reduced, whether 30 km/h or 40 km/h. I just want our town to be safer and slower, she said.
