On July 31, 15 volunteers headed over to Lake Edith to help clean up the lake.
The Lake Edith clean-up was organized by the residents themselves.
Along with the residents and volunteers, the clean-up also had two scuba divers come along to help.
鈥淚t should be a much nicer environment for both fish and humans now,鈥� said Sally Baydala, whose husband Marlo organized the clean-up.
The clean-up started bright and early at 9 a.m. and didn鈥檛 finish until about 5 p.m.
There were two rafts manned by four people each to lift the debris out of the water.
The scuba divers attached the lifting ropes to the debris under the water.
There was also one snorkeler to patrol the shallower shore, pick up bottles and broken glass, as well as two scouts on paddleboards to identify any debris that might be on the surface.
The team scoured the entire perimeter of Lake Edith up to a depth of 20 feet.
After all the debris was pulled out of the lake, it was then transported by trucks that were supplied by two of the volunteers to the Jasper Transfer Station where it was weighed.
The team of volunteers pulled out 572 pounds out of Lake Edith.
The debris consisted of rusted metal, old tires, wooden structures, bottles and a 45-gallon barrel.
