Jasper Municipal Library Staff
We are excited for the return of Jasper’s World Tree this month in Robson Park, across from the Library and Cultural Centre. A community gathering place envisioned by community members, the World Tree continues an age-old tradition of celebrating light through the darkest time of the year.
Throughout December, Jasper locals and visitors are invited to hang ornaments on the World Tree. While a brightly lit evergreen might recall the Christian celebration of Christmas (Dec. 25), the World Tree was envisioned to help celebrate any number of traditions, including Winter Solstice (Dec. 21), Kwanzaa (Dec. 26-Jan. 1), Omisoka (Dec. 31), Hanukka (Nov. 28-Dec. 6) and Pancha Ganapati (Dec. 21-25). We encourage everyone to hang an ornament that symbolizes their own winter traditions.
We encourage you to take your time while visiting the World Tree. Enjoy a winter picnic, or gather around the fire to share stories, food, and music. While you’re there, stop by the Library & Cultural Centre for a warm-up. There’s lots happening in the building in December:
In the Lobby
Fulfill a child’s holiday wish! Choose a mitten from our Santas Anonymous mitten line, buy the item listed and deliver both the mitten and gift to the library. While you’re there, take or leave a glad tiding or encouraging note for someone on the new Seasons Greeting Tree.
Jasper’s Community Habitat for the Arts
Throughout December, visit “the Hab” Mondays at 10:30 a.m. for drop-in creativity. On Monday, Dec. 13 at 10:30 a.m., join Jennifer Ottaway and a guest for an hour session on book illustration. Support the Habitat for the Arts by purchasing a little clay tree made by one of their pottery students or see what else is on sale at The Shelf Shop.
Jasper Artists Guild (JAG)
The Jasper Art Gallery is always worth a visit. Bright colours, gorgeous artwork and a zen atmosphere might be just what you need to beat the winter blahs. Original local art makes an amazing gift for someone special, and art cards and prints make great stocking stuffers.

Local writer Paulette Dubé invites you to celebrate the season of sharing by donating a non-perishable food item for the Food Bank. Complete the sentence “Home is…” or “My home…” on a piece of paper or sticky note (12 words or less), stick it to your donation and bring it to the library in December. Paulette will gather your contributions and build a community poem to share in January.
See you at the World Tree!
