Jasper Municipal Library staff
Did you know that we house the Jasper Local Food Society’s seed library? In a seed library, seeds are lent out for gardeners to plant and grow, then ripe seeds are harvested from some of the resulting crops and donated back to the library. Seed libraries save money, preserve species diversity and provide gardeners with crops that do well locally. Commercial seeds are also “swapped” at our seed library.
Due to the timing of our COVID closures, our seeds haven’t been circulating much, but we’ve decided to fix that. As of May 12, seeds are available for scheduled pickup.
To participate, contact the library to see what’s available and arrange a pickup time (or check out our Facebook page; we’ll provide a weekly list of available seeds). You can request just seeds, or ask for a Garden Care Package, which includes the following:
- Basic seed saving information
- Information sheet: Pete (Amyoony)’s Planting Times for the Robson Valley
- Seed packets for seed saving
- Seeds!
All our seeds were donated, and our seed packets are made from scrap paper. Don’t be shy. Order as many seed varieties as you have room to grow.
Summer Reading Club
Are you between the ages of four and 12? Incorporate reading into your summer plans this year with the Summer Reading Club. Starting July 10, activity books will be available at the library for pick up every Saturday till Aug. 28. Along with the activity books, we are putting together several activity and story time kits of varying themes that families can take out for a week. Sadly, this year we will not have in person programming, but follow us on social media to see occasional video drops. We will also be posting updates on social media for local summer reading club registration and on how families can pick up the activity books and borrow the activity and story time kits. Check out the TD Summer Reading Club site for information for parents and fun activities for families and children in English and French. Online registration will begin June 15.
If you are stumped on what to read next, need some books for your kids, or looking for information give us a call. We can pull some recommendations from the shelf for you and schedule you in for a pickup. Memberships are free.
Staff are in the library Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call at 780-852-3652 or shoot us an email at [email protected]
