Op-ed: Enough is Enough: It's Time to Address Canada's Cost of Living Crisis

Canadians are feeling the pinch. Every day, it gets tougher to afford the basics. And what's the government doing? Not enough. Since 2021, we've seen a sharp 14.5% drop in new homes being built (according to Statistics Canada). And thanks to soaring prices, nearly 80% of us are cutting back on holiday spending this year (says polling group IPSOS). But while we tighten our belts, the NDP-Liberal government is busy wasting billions of taxpayer dollars. To name just a few examples, among many, include the Green Slush Fund scandal, the tens of millions of dollars wasted on shady ArriveCan contracts, and the $228,839 taxpayer price tag for the Prime Minister’s vacation in Montana.

Let's talk about housing. Not enough homes mean higher prices. It's simple math. The NDP-Liberal government has only piled on the inflationary spending, raising interest rates, and making mortgages unaffordable. Families are struggling to find affordable places to live, and many young Canadians have accepted that they will never own a home. This isn't just disappointing; it's a failure of leadership under this Prime Minister.

As for inflation, everything costs more – groceries, fuel, home heating, you name it. The NDP-Liberal government's runaway spending is like adding fuel to a fire. It's burning up our paycheques, and what are they offering in return? More scandals and wasted money on projects that don't help us but sure seem to help their friends.

It's clear: the NDP-Liberal coalition isn't working for Canadians. They're too caught up in their own mess to see the real issues – they are completely out of touch. We have families that can't afford their groceries, seniors who are pinching pennies, and young people who can't even imagine buying a home.

In short, Canadians deserve better. We deserve a common sense government that understands our struggles and acts on them, not one that's constantly grappling with controversy and careless spending. It's time for a change. It's time for a government that listens, understands, and acts. What is needed is a Conservative government that puts Canadians first.
