Welcome to your Jasper Seniors Society 51°µÍø column, which appears every two weeks courtesy of the 51°µÍø.

The Community Dinners will end after the March 24 Dinner. Doors open for all seniors at 4:30 p.m. at the Activity Centre Hall. Please note that seniors are welcome at 4:30 p.m, families with children at 5 p.m. and open to everyone at 5:30 p.m. All society members get a preview of each weekly menu. Thank you to everyone involved for these wonderful weekly dinners!

Cost will be just $25 for Dinner and a Show - concert by Dahlia Wakefield, popular singer known in Jasper.

We ask that you RSVP by Monday, April 15, please, by emailing us at [email protected].

Now is the perfect time to renew your membership. Fred Kreiner will be at the dinner to renew memberships at $10 per year so you can receive newsletters, invitations to events and more. A group of Whitecourt seniors will enjoy the evening with us.

Check out the museum’s new exhibit Wilds of Jasper, which just opened! The museum is open Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 pm.

A reminder that the museum welcomes all refundables given to Sheila’s Bottle Bin. Thank you!

Jasper Community Development has launched Prime Time! This is a new community program for folks 55-plus in Jasper. This free program will be offered on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30-3:00 p.m. in the basement of the library. There are guest speakers and activities scheduled for March, so please feel free to join us to Learn, Experience, and Connect with others. Please reach out with any questions and suggestions for future activity and presentation topics/ideas. Kacie can be reached at the COS office at 780-852-2100.

Volunteers Wanted! Drive Happiness is a program that aims at assisting seniors to remain independent in our community by providing them with access to transportation. They are seeking volunteer drivers. If you are experiencing barriers to transportation and interested in using this service to access programs and services in the community, please reach out to Kacie at Community Outreach for more information and assistance with the application process by calling 780-931-3363 or emailing to [email protected].

Please share what you love about Jasper, what challenges you face and what ideas you have to make Jasper better.

Do you need help filing your income taxes? If so, you can contact Community Outreach Services as they have volunteers ready to help prepare simple tax returns. You can visit the office at 627 Patricia Street or email to: [email protected] or simply call 780-852-2100.

Remember that the good things in life are free and that includes the library events and book lending!

Support the society that supports you! Please choose Jasper Seniors Society as the donation recipient at TGP.

Anyone over 55 years of age can join the society for a nominal $10 annual fee and receive newsletters and invitations to outings and functions throughout the year. The objectives of the society, in part, are to promote the interests of seniors as well as to coordinate the services available to seniors in the community. The society manages and maintains a Seniors’ Lounge in the Activity Centre where our monthly meetings take place on the second Monday of each month.

Our next meeting will be on Monday, April 8, at 1:30 p.m. at the Seniors’ Lounge at the Jasper Activity Centre.

All seniors are welcome to attend and see what we are about. You can then decide if membership will be a benefit to you. If you have any ideas or wish to voice any concerns please feel free to email to: [email protected].
