JASPER – Wildfire smoke coming from northern B.C. and northern Alberta has prompted air quality advisories for both Jasper and Hinton as of Wednesday (June 11).
The air quality index for most of the region is high risk, with Jasper rated at eight out of 10 and Hinton rated 10.
“Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour,” Environment Canada stated in its advisory.
Although certain groups such as seniors, pregnant women, young children and those with health conditions are more likely to be impacted, everyone’s health is at risk during heavy smoke conditions.
Environment Canada advised the public to limit time outdoors as well as consider rescheduling or cancelling outdoor sports, activities and events.
Windows and doors should stay closed to protect the indoor air quality.
