The expansion includes intermediate level trails and a new chairlift.

Since August, Parks Canada has issued 123 development permits and 34 building permits. Only 41 per cent of permit applications received since August are complete and conforming.

The program is anticipated to launch on May 1.

A majority of the boardwalk will be fully walkable and open for public use by May 11, but some sections will remain in their pile state until the contractor returns next winter to complete the remaining work.

Since August, 95 development permits have been approved, including rebuilds of seven fire-impacted homes, one condo complex, one apartment building, three outlying hotels, one commercial building and one structure at Lake Edith.

The program is estimated to create 30 additional net new units over a three-year period.

The plebiscite on the three modernization options will be held in conjunction with the 2025 municipal election on Oct. 20.

"I just don’t feel like it’s responsible to move forward without some type of really clear direction from the citizens of the community."

Construction is expected to resume in April once the frost melts and last for seven weeks until being completed in June.

Residents and contractors have been pushing local officials to make more land available for in-town contractor camps, interim residences and laydown areas.
