HINTON – Two Hinton residents have been charged after police executed a search warrant and seized drugs at a Hinton address on Friday (May 30).

Wesley James Baldwin Clare, 38, and Haley Elizabeth Sjovold, 32, were both charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Clare was additionally charged with trafficking in a controlled substance.

The two were brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. They are scheduled to appear in Hinton court on June 18.

In January, Hinton RCMP received information from the public regarding an individual trafficking drugs from an address in Hinton. Hinton RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) took charge of the investigation.

As a result of executing the search warrant, police arrested the two individuals and seized 30 grams of fentanyl as well as eight grams of cocaine and smaller amounts of other drugs.

Staff Sgt. Shiloh Fragomeni, detachment commander of the Hinton RCMP, thanked the public for coming forward with information that allowed police to start this investigation.

“This investigation highlights how good information, paired with specialized units such as Hinton RCMP CRU, can help keep our communities safe by removing drugs from out streets and arresting those responsible for trafficking them,” Fragomeni said in a statement.
