JASPER, ALTA. — Every summer for 61 years, tourists have piled onto Jasper’s SkyTram to see the boomerang-shaped town nestled inside the sprawling Rocky Mountains. It'll happen again this summer, but the view will be different.

The 16th annual Jasper Pride and Ski Festival kicked off 10 days of festivities with the raising of the Pride flag at Commemoration Park on Friday (April 4).

Marmot Basin, a ski resort south of the Jasper townsite, confirmed that one of its skiing guests collided with a tree.

"It's a very rare occasion to get everyone together who does trail run in the same room where no one's actually running."

“The bad news is we have a much bigger and more cumulative effect with our recreation than we realize."

"The environmental group is clearly seen as a threat to oil and gas interests and is a high-profile target for increasingly common efforts to silence opposition."

The Red Cross has been active in Jasper since the wildfire broke out last summer.

The plebiscite on the three modernization options will be held in conjunction with the 2025 municipal election on Oct. 20.

The pop-up village, which will give businesses displaced by the Jasper wildfire a place to operate this summer, is expected to launch on May long weekend.

Pine Grove Manor, an independent seniors living facility, was one of many buildings destroyed in last summer’s wildfire. The Alberta government has indicated that the facility will be rebuilt.
