"Unfortunately, our main priority right now remains the fact that although fires are no longer present in the town, there's still fires around the town, and that's the number one priority."

The Jasper Wildfire Business Conditions Survey aims to help quantify economic losses from the fire as well as expedite the safe return of residents, and the re-building and re-opening of Jasper’s tourism-based economy.

Lt. Ethan Gardner, a Southern Alberta firefighter combatting the Jasper wildfires, says the devastation is not easy to witness.

Access is currently being granted only to commercial vehicles, which are defined as trucks, tractors, trailers or any combination thereof, with a registered gross vehicle weight exceeding 11,794 kilograms.

"We continue to collaborate with Parks Canada, and are focusing on the support of our staff and community during this very difficult time and while the wildfire remains classified as out of control."

Highway 16 remains closed, but officials are working to facilitate the movement of semis within the next 24 hours.

The Jasper poet recently published her newest collection, borne out of something she started a few years ago.

"We are immensely saddened to see the significant damage that has occurred in Jasper—a truly magical place, whose rugged and romantic beauty has captivated Canadians and travellers from around the world."

Crews are working on restoring power to key areas in town and have so far managed to re-energize the Municipality of Jasper and Parks Canada operations.

The Columbia Icefields area would be among the first areas to be accessible to visitors since there was no immediate fire danger that far south. It is currently closed.
